Lala Lajpat Rai Institute of Management organized Awareness Session on Ocular Trauma on 5th February 2026 on compliance with the AICTE communication regarding the implementation of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Advisory on “Prevention, Minimization and Mitigation of Ocular Trauma.”

The session  highlight the importance of eye safety and ocular health among students and staff members. Ocular trauma is one of the leading causes of irreversible and permanent blindness in India, and most eye injuries are preventable through awareness and timely care.

The session was delivered by Dr. Susha Sugathan, a renowned Ophthalmologist, Neuro-ophthalmologist, and Squint Surgeon from Mumbai. Dr. Sugathan explained various types of ocular injuries, including workplace-related injuries, sports-related trauma, domestic accidents, and injuries caused by chemical exposure or foreign bodies.

The speaker emphasized preventive strategies such as the use of protective eyewear, safe handling of chemicals and sharp objects, and adherence to safety protocols. She also demonstrated basic first-aid measures to be taken immediately after an eye injury and highlighted the importance of early medical intervention to prevent long-term damage.

The session was interactive, with students actively participating by asking questions and sharing real-life scenarios. The discussion helped clarify myths related to eye injuries and reinforced the importance of eye care in daily life.
