Faculty Initiatives on Teaching - Learning - Prof. Aiman Bhabhrawala

Progressive learning requires effective teaching methodologies including adopting unique and innovative approaches within the classroom and beyond it. For the subjects related to Finance and Accountancy, the following initiatives have been undertaken:

1. Financial Accounting for Business- Semester 1 (Twice a week in DIV- A, B)

The subject- Financial Accounting being integral for any management aspirant is the core Subject of Semester 1 of MMS Programme of University of Mumbai. To understand the basic accounting concepts, conventions and principles, Case studies were undertaken in the class to identify the mistakes and to suggest the applicable concept. The pedagogy used to deliver the concepts were PowerPoint presentation and classroom discussion. The students were explained the pro-forma of Income statement and Balance Sheet with the help of Reliance Company’s Annual Reports to give them a cue of practical scenario.

2. International Business- Sem 3 (Once a week across 4 specializations)

As international business management helps students to develop a broad global business perspective and allows them to broaden their horizons to run a business across multiple cultures and countries, it is included as a Core subject of Semester 3.

To deliver the EPRG framework, examples of companies across different industries were undertaken, hence the students’ engagement during the sessions was immense as they contributed more to the cases discussed. Also, real life examples related to cultural dimensions were discussed in the class with the help of YouTube videos.

To deliver the topic on ‘Ways to Enter A Global Market’, caselets of companies like Air India-Vistara, Uber-Volvo, Maruti Suzuki, Apple-Foxxon-Pegatron, IKEA, Nike, Nestle-Starbucks, Dolby Laboratories, Disney, McDonalds, Carrefour, Dunkin Donuts, Sony Ericson, Bajaj Allianz, Vodafone-Idea, Google-Android, Pixar- Disney, Exxon Mobil, INOX-PVR, Zomato-Blinkit etc. were discussed in the classroom through PowerPoint Presentation.

To convey the concept of Hofstede Cultural Dimensions, an engaging video was shown in the classrooms to present the dimensions in an easy and understandable way.

3. Financial Management- Semester 2 (Twice a week in DIV- C, D)

Financial Management being a core calculative subject of Semester 2 was undertaken in both the divisions with multiple numerical in the class through black board teaching.
